Class A softball teams continue to dance around the rankings

Four of the top five teams in the GHSA Class A softball rankings are from Macon, and none are in the same spots as a week ago.

Tattnall eased back into No. 2, Mount de Sales moved up two to No. 3, Stratford and FPD fell to No. 4 and 5.

All were in the top five last week.

Wesleyan is first with an 11.98 rating, Tattnall close behind at 11.80. Little separates MdS (11.19), Stratford (11.04) and FPD (10.92).

GMC and Hawkinsville improved a bit on the public side, GMC up three and Hawkinsville up one.

ACE is next at No. 21, one ahead of Crawford County.

The top 24 teams in the final regular-season rankings make the postseason.

The state tournament starts on Oct. 10, with the finals set for Oct. 27.

Little movement among area teams in Class A football rankings

Mount de Sales moved up three spots to No. 8 after beating Stratford, which dropped from 17th to 19th, second best among the local private schools.

FPD and Tattnall are 31 and 32.

Hancock Central is now the top area public team at No. 17, jumping from 28th.  Dooly County dropped from 25th to 29th, and Macon County moved up to a tie for 25th.

Hawkinsville’s win over Crawford County lifted the Red Devils to 31st.

The top 24 in the final regular-season rankings make the postseason.

Hancock Central has only one game left against a team that can help its standing, private No. 6 Aquinas.

Schley County is tied for No. 8 public, giving region rivals Taylor County, Macon County, and Crawford County a chance to improve before the Region 4-A crossovers and play-ins.
