Honor Roll

Former FPD standout Reggie Gantt is the latest Pioneer Football League defensive player of the week.

The junior defensive back had an interception to set up a field goal in Stetson's 19-14 win over Marist, to go along with four tackles, two for loss with a couple sacks. The interception came in the second quarter, with a 27-yard return. He had sack to force a punt early in the third quarter, then a sack late in the game, and he ended his day with a pass breakup on the same drive.

The Hatters are 3-0.

SPHL president stepping down

The Southern Professional Hockey League is looking for a new leader for the first time in nearly a decade.

The league announced Monday that Jim Combs is resigning for other opportunities, effective Nov. 30.

He started with the league in 2007 and became president in 2010.

The league, headquartered in Huntersville, N.C., is starting its 15th season.

Hawks add to injury list

The Hawks will be without Daniel Hamilton and Omari Spellman as training camp starts.

The Hawks, incidentally might have three second-round picks next year.

Around Central Georgia

Mercer’s men’s golf will have to wait for second-round play at the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio because of weather.

The Bears shot a 301 in the first round and were through 12 holes of the second. They’re in 12th place.
