The NL East Division Champs Report: There was a game Saturday, and Folty was pretty good in it; reports and observations
Some hardware, a bit ahead of schedule
It last happened in 2013.
Seems like longer.
Mike Foltynewicz got it going with a no-hitter for six innings and the bullpen held on to give Atlanta a 5-3 win over Philadelphia and clinch the N.L. East.
Foltynewicz improved to 12-10, his no-hitter broken up by Odubel Hererra to open the seventh. He ended up allowing two runs on three walks and two hits, with five strikeouts.
Arodys Vizcainoâs flawless ninth gave him his 16th save, first after missing 55 games with a right shoulder injury and since earning one against the Mets in mid-June.
Ender Inciarte had two hits and three runs, and Johan Camargo and Freddie Freeman had two RBI each.
Jake Arrieta was done after two innings for the Phillies in his shortest start ever. It was 4-0 after two, and then it got quiet.
Philadelphia scored three in the eighth as Atlanta went through four relievers after Foltynewiczâs day was done.
The playoffs start on Oct. 2 with the wild-card games, the NL Divisional Series starting on Oct. 4, on FS1 or MLB. The NLCS is to start on Oct. 12.
Snit a posterchild for Bravesâ organization

Folty: 3 K's and a walk in the 3rd inning, has allowed 3 walks and no hits through 3. ATL coming to bat in 3rd with a 4-0 lead and facing RH Enyel De Los Santos/DOB
Camargo's two-run single gives the Braves a 2-0 first-inning lead over Arrieta, who entered today with a 6.03 ERA over his past seven starts./MB
Terrific diving stop by #Braves 3B Camargo to spear a Franco line drive for 2nd out of 5th inning, prevent an extra-base hit./DOB
Holy hell Johan Camargo. Prado suffered a season-ending injury when he attempted to make a similar catch near the end of the 2010 season./MB
Freeman's two-run single in the second gives the Braves a 4-0 lead. Folty has thrown 16 pitches (6 vs. Santana, who walked to begin the second) through two innings. Five of the seven batters he's faced have swung at the first pitch./MB
Folty has held the Phillies hitless through six innings (62 pitches). He's retired 10 straight since issuing the second of his two walks with two outs in the third./MB
That's it for Foltynewicz, who pitched 7.1 scoreless. He received a thunderous ovation and replied with a cap tip./GB
Big ovation for Foltynewicz as he left game with 1 out in the 8th, after giving up a single and walk this inning. #Braves up 4-0, Biddle in, will face Bautista with 2 on./DOB
Acuna chased down Altherr's liner and Hoskins was unable to get to Suzuki's RBI single. The comparison of those two results stands as yet another example of how defense significantly influenced this year's NL East race./MB
Foltynewicz: 7 1/3 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 3 BB, 5 K. (84/56)/DOB
Camargo part of the 2 biggest defensive plays of the game: his terrific diving stab of Franco's would-be extra-base hit in 5th inning, and the crazy-bounce would-be infield hit by Altherr in 8th that missed Camargo's glove and went foul, would've loaded bases. Altherr then F7'd/DOB
Foltynewicz said he was gassed, tired, approved of the move, for those insisting he shouldn't have been replaced/DOB
The Freeze is going to win his division as well./GB
Acuña stole second base in the first inning today and became the 10th player in MLB history to have at least 15 steals & 25 homers as a rookie. Last to do it? Mike Trout in 2012. Freddie said this week he thinks Acuña can be the "Mike Trout of the National League"/DOB
"I don't think I've ever been so happy in my life," Ender Inciarte said./GB
Snitker: "You kind of sit back and wonder sometimes what this is going to feel like. When I was here as the third base coach and we won the division, the wild card, itâs great. You wonder as a manager how itâs going to feel and itâs even better than I anticipated."/DOB
Freddie Freeman: âNo one picked us to win the division this year, and Iâm sure no oneâs going to pick us in the playoffs. (But) thatâs our goal. Weâre going to try to get the most important 11 wins.â/GB
Freeman on what defines this #Braves team: âFor me, itâs every single guy helped win a ballgame. From Ryan Flaherty to Preston Tucker to Charlie Culberson to every single guy. We had 4 rookie starters win ballgames this year. We wouldnât have been here without every single guy.â/DOB
"We wanted to do something for this city because the community deserved it, the people deserved it, our fans deserved it.â -Dansby Swanson/GB
