Georgia College soccer reaches milestone

The Bobcats keep winning, and now they’ve hit their best ranking ever.

Georgia College is up to No. 13 in the United Soccer Coaches National Rankings.

The Bobcats jumped nine spots in a week to blow past the previous best of No. 19 in 2008.

Alas, the ranking jinxed the Bobcats, who fell to 5-1-1 with a 2-1 loss Wednesday at North Georgia.

Ashlee Graham, the reigning Peach Belt goalkeeper of the week, had seven saves to take over first on the program’s all-time list and into seventh on the conference career list.

Sofia Lekas, who scored the Bobcats’ goal Wednesday, is a senior from Mount de Sales, and former Bobcat standout and Mount de Sales grad Abby Dalton is an assistant.

Georgia College hosts Georgia Southwestern at 5 p.m. Saturday.

Next stop for Spikes, Canton?

Washington County alum Takeo Spikes is now eligible for votes to the NFL Hall of Fame. Story in The Latest Coverage.

Atlanta pulls out win in extra time

San Jose led by two goals in the second half, but Atlanta scored late to tie it and then in extra time, by Josef Martinez, to win 4-3.
