Fromm, Oliver earn weekly conference honors

          The competition continues with Jake Fromm and Tobias Oliver.

          They battled in high school at Houston County and Northside, and it’s carrying on to college, where both earned respective weekly conference honors. Fromm is the SEC’s co-offensive player of the week and Oliver the ACC’s co-rookie of the week.

Fromm, as per the release: Went 17-for-24 for 240 yards and three touchdowns, which tied his career high, to stay perfect against the #9 Gators; Fromm, who had no interceptions in the matchup, connected on all three of his touchdowns on third downs for 16, 12 and 24 yards; Directed an offense that piled up 429 yards against Florida's respected defense and connected with seven different receivers, including leading receiver TE Isaac Nauta for five catches for 73 yards.

          Oliver, as per the release: “Making his first-career start in place of injured starter TaQuon Marshall, Oliver ran for 215 yards on 40 carries (both career highs) and scored three touchdowns (matching a career high) to help lead Georgia Tech to a 49-28 victory at Virginia Tech. Oliver’s 215 rushing yards were the second-most by a quarterback in Georgia Tech history and marked the seventh-highest single-game rushing total in GT history, regardless of position.”

GHSA Class A football rankings updated

          Mount de Sales remains the highest ranked Central Georgia team in the latest GHSA Class A rankings.

          The Cavs are No. 10 in the private poll, while Tattnall is 21st and Stratford 23rd.

          Dooly County and Hancock Central lead the public contingent at No. 15 and 16. Macon County is No. 20 and Taylor County No. 23.

          The top 24 teams in the final ranking – which includes adjustments for region championships – make the playoffs.

 

Macon TD Club honors a Charger and Patriot

          The Macon Touchdown Club has picked a Central and Southwest player for weekly honors.

          Central quarterback Donald Lamb completed 7 of 18 passes for 134 yards and ran seven times for 127 yards, accounting for four touchdowns in the win over Rutland, adding a two-point conversion catch.

          Southwest linebacker Marquez Baxter racked up 15 tackles, two for loss, and had a 33-yard interception and a 70-yard fumble return for a touchdown in the win over West Laurens.
