Class 6A
Coffee 41, Houston County 14
Class 5A
Warner Robins 38, Bainbridge 0
The Demons need about 11 minutes before their first score (by Blake Ethridge), and then until the 5:02 mark of the second quarter (Dylan Fromm keeper), and the gates were slowly opened. It was 24-0 three minutes into the third quarter as Warner Robins recorded its second shutout in three weeks, and earned its first two-shutout regular season since 2011.
Jones County 42, Eagle’s Landing 7
The Greyhounds went up 21-0 at halftime on Hunter Costlow TD passes to Caden Multcher and Jontavis Robertson and a short run by Semaj Ingram for the homecoming win, and the sixth time this season Jones County has scored 35 points or more. The Greyhounds outgained the Eagles 430-144, and nearly doubled up on first downs, 19-10. Costlow was 16 of 21 for 270 yards and three touchdowns, six for 98 to Robertson and four for 52 to Mutchler. Ingram ran for 81 yards on 12 carries as Jones County was 8 of 11 on third down. Ja’Darien Boykin led the defense with 11 tackles and three for loss.
Class 4A
Upson-Lee 38, Howard 24
Howard took a 14-8 lead on two Quintan Sewell touchdowns, one a dazzling 68-yarder that covered side to side. The Knights took the lead on a 66-yard touchdown pass from sophomore Jake Davis to a wide open Thadd Webb, who has been battling a hamstring issue for a few weeks. Chase Winters’ kick made it 15-14 with 10:28 left in the half. Then Daymon Thomas went around the right side, through a hole, and cut back to the left for a nifty 62-yard touchdown en route to a 262-yard, four-touchdown night. The kick made it 22-14 with 3:48 left in the first half. Howard blocked a field goal on the final play of the first half, and then got a field goal on its first trip of the second half, a 27-yarder from Elizabeth Rodenroth. Howard then held on fourth and 2, but was flagged for a 15-yard facemask, and the Knights scored a play later, Thomas going in from the 15 for a 29-17 lead. Davis was 10 of 19 for 156 yards, with a score and a pick.
Perry 26, Spalding 14
The Panthers stayed alive in the 2-4A race, leading by two at halftime and maintaining control.
Mary Persons 52, West Laurens 14
The eye-opening score of the evening was at halftime: 38-0. How eye-opening? West Laurens had given up only 46 points through seven games, and hadn’t given up that many points in a regular-season game since a 42-21 loss in 2016. More? The Raiders didn’t allow that many in a game in all of 2014 and 2013. The last 50-point game on West Laurens? A 56-0 loss to then-No. 1 Peach County in 2010 when both were in the same 3A region. J.T. Hartage threw TD pass of 18 to DeAdrek Alford and 59 to Antoine Davis in the first six minutes for a 14-0 lead. Quen Wilson added a 3-yard run with a minute left in the third. He added a 63-yard score later.
Baldwin 30, Burke County 7
Baldwin continued its improbable run by hammering ninth-ranked Burke County to take over sole possession of first in 3-4A. Donte Justice caught two TD passes and helped the Braves defense hold Burke County to its lowest point total since a 28-6 quarterfinal playoff loss to Marist in 2017, and lowest in the regular season since a 20-7 loss to Thomson late in 2016. It is Baldwin’s first win over a ranked team in any class of victory over a playoff-level team since beating Peach County (No. 7/4, 3A) 35-21 on Sept. 6, 2013.
Class 3A
Peach County 50, Central 8
Kapien Everett scored three rushing touchdowns en route to 83 yards on the ground and Peach County racked up 404 yards total offense. Central scored for the first time since 2015 against Peach County, and for only the third time since 2010. Jaydon Gibson was 15 of 20 for 201 yards and a touchdown.
Westside 37, Kendrick 0, Thursday
Class AA
Dublin 35, Northeast 3
Dublin expanded a 7-3 lead early in the second quarter to 21-3 at halftime to stay perfect in 3-AA play. Corteveyas Mitchell scored on a short run and then Tyler Strickland’s long kickoff return set up another Mitchell score for a 14-3 lead. Greg Jones capped the first-half score in the final 90 seconds. Jones added a 4-yard score four minutes into the third, and Northeast held Dublin out of the end zone until the 9:48 mark of the fourth, Stacy Sharpe going n from 11. The Irish outran the Raiders 295-170, the Raiders taking a 179-53 passing advantage and getting one more first down, on 17 more plays. Mitchell had 94 yards and Jones 84 on the ground. Nolan Ussery was 8 of 14 for 169 yards but three interceptions for the Raiders.
Dodge County 49, East Laurens 22
Washington County 46, Southwest 22
Southwest made the hosts sweat for about 42 minutes, and trailed only 26-22 midway through the fourth before the Golden Hawks up and scored three times in the final six minutes for a misleading margin of victory. The Patriots went from a 19-8 halftime deficit to a 22-19 lead late in the third quarter. Preston Daniels passed for 160 yards and Sha’Marcus Poole ran for 88 yards and three touchdowns, part of the 306-yard run night. Zeri Taylor ran for 98, passed for 22, and had 42 receiving yards.
Bremen 35, Lamar County 7
Elbert County 47, Monticello 8
Banks County 24, Putnam County 12
Class A
Macon County 36, Hawkinsville 0
Schley County 63, Crawford County 7
Taylor County 50, Dooly County 19
The surprise of the night camp in Butler, with the Vikings knocking off the No. 10/AJC Bobcats with Dooly County giving up the most points since Dodge County (No. 9/10, AA) won 70-27 last year. Dooly County had a short week, Hurricane Michael forcing the Bobcats to play Monday, and at Crawford County rather than at home. It was the largest margin of victory in the series and the most points scored by the winner. The Bobcats were ranked 15th and the Vikings 32nd in the latest GHSA Class A Public rankings.
Lincoln County 28, GMC 14
Hancock Central 30, Warren County 16
Mount de Sales 48, FPD 7
A 21-point second quarter put the Cavs in control and a 13-point third quarter was the knockout punch. Micah Hattaway scored on a 15-yard run and then threw a 13-yard TD pass to quarterback Dexter Williams, sandwiching a 14-yard scoring run by Jaden Wilson for MdS in the second quarter. Williams added TD runs of 1 and 29 yards in the third quarter around Josiah Cotton’s 27-yard score. The Cavs roared to 520 total yards to 98 for FPD, which managed only two first downs. Williams ran for 187 yards and Cotton 117, and Williams was 5 for 7 passing for 73 yards. It was the most points MdS has ever scored against FPD and matched the largest margin of victory over the Vikes (41-0 in 1995). It was also the Cavs’ second-biggest win over a Macon private-school rival, topped only by a 51-9 win over Stratford in 1997.
Stratford 7, Wilkinson County 6
A missed PAT midway through the fourth quarter kept the game from going into overtime and prevented Stratford from perhaps suffering its most embarrassing loss in years. The Eagles entered the game 22nd in the GHSA Class A Private rankings, and the Warriors were 44th out of 51 on the public side.
Aucilla Christian, Fla. 46, ACE 20
GISA
Brentwood 42, Briarwood 7
Brentwood outgained Briarwood 347-225, 262-188 on the ground, and rolled despite four turnovers. The War Eagles got three touchdowns from Chase Everett (runs of 28 and 15 yards, catch of 46), and two from Jay Musselwhite (2 and 13 yards), C.J. Daniel adding a 1-yard run. Musselwhite rushed for 86 yards, Everett 85, and Colby Johnson 51. Ford Sheppard had six tackles and Daniel five.
Westfield 27, Augusta Prep 7
The Hornets did all their damage in the first half and blanked Augusta Prep in the second, getting two scores from Hunter Smallwood (57 and 4 yards), a 68-yarder from Garan Daw and 1-yarder from C.J. Thomas. Smallwood’s second score came on the final play of the first half. The Hornets exploded for 326 yards on 33 carries, an average of 10 yards a pop. Daw went for 110 on eight carries, Thomas 105 on 15, and Smallwood 101 on nine.
John Milledge 49, Bethlehem Christian 0
The suspense was gone pretty early, the Trojans bolting out to a 35-0 halftime lead, Amaad Foston scoring four times on touchdowns totaling 92 yards, en route to a 210-yard night. JM ran for 323 yards and Brandon Bellflower was a remarkable 5-of-7 for 184 yards and a touchdown for the undefeated Trojans. Taylor Dixon had 103 yards in receptions, including the 73-yard score.
Memorial Day 35, Gatewood 26
Piedmont 42, Crisp 38
Bulloch 50, Trinity Christian 20
