Central Georgians impact latest Georgia Sports Hall of Fame class
Alums of Northeast, Mount de Sales, and Washington County headline the 2019 Georgia Sports Hall of Fame Induction class.
Brenda Cliette, Ben Zambiasi, and Takeo Spikes will be joined by coach T. McFerrin, broadcaster Ernie Johnson Jr., the Peach Bowl’s Gary Stokan, and Georgia Tech’s Calvin Johnson and Mark Teixeira in the latest class.
Cliette (Thomas) was a track and basketball star at Northeast and Florida State in the 1980s. Zambiasi is Georgia’s all-time leader in tackles, after leading Mount de Sales to state titles in the 1970s. Spikes helped Washington County become a state name before stellar careers at Auburn and in the NFL.
Induction weekend is Feb. 22-23.
Braves get the Dodgers
Los Angeles beat Colorado 5-2 Monday to win the NL West, and gets Atlanta next.
The series starts Thursday in L.A.
Georgia College men’s hoops open on Nov. 13
The Bobcats will have 13 regular-season home game, after exhibitions with Middle Georgia State and Georgia State.
Georgia College opens at home with Shorter on Nov. 13.

Mayhem add Faiella, Taulien
A pair of players will return to the Macon Mayhem for 2018-19.
The team announced the signings of Jake Faiella and Alexander Taulien.
GHSA Class A softball and football rankings updated
Region 7-A is almost like the SEC West in private school softball, with four of the top six teams in the latest GHSA rankings.
Now it’s FPD’s turn to be No. 1, taking over for Wesleyan, which had been there awhile.
Mount de Sales is third, Tattnall fourth, and Stratford fell to No. 6, George Walton squeezing in at fifth.
GMC and Hawkinsville have moved up to Nos. 4 and 5 in the public ranking, with ACE at No. 18 and Crawford County at No. 24.

Mount de Sales tops Central Georgia in the football rankings at No. 6 among private schools.
Stratford is No. 21, FPD. 30th and Tattnall 33rd.
Hancock Central is No. 14 on the public list, the only team safely in the playoff field at this point. Dooly County isn’t far behind, at No. 19.
GMC is 30th, Hawkinsville 32nd and Macon County 33rd.
