Saturday's Braves Report: Gausman nice in debut loss; Sanchez rockin', Minter adapting, youngsters getting ready, minor-league update, observations

Gausman solid, Braves’ bats aren’t

Kevin Gausman’s debut with Atlanta was solid if not a little inspiring, with the newcomer giving up six hits and three runs in five innings.

But Atlanta’s bats couldn’t do anything with Zach Wheeler, who threw a five-hitter in the Mets’ 3-0 win.

Freddie Freeman had two of the Braves’ hits, Atlanta going 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position, managing one extra-base hit, and stranding five.

Gausman fell to 5-9, throwing 51 strikes in 86 pitches. The bullpen again was solid, giving up only three hits, all wasted by Atlanta’s offense.

Sanchez keeps on rockin’

          He qualifies as a surprise.
