Tuesday's Central Georgia - and of interest to Central Georgia - news and notes, compiled from staff reports, email reports, the web, and social media.
FPD’s Dasher in challenge match
Luke Dasher, off a quality outing in the Georgia state amateur and win in the Georgia Junior Championship, is on Team Georgia in the Georgia-South Carolina Junior Challenge Match.
The tournament is Friday and Saturday at The Landings in Deer Creek in Savannah.
Joining Dasher on the Georgia team: Brandon Cho of Suwanee, Samuel Lape of Atlanta, Myles Jones of Suwanee, Eli Scott of Hartwell, Erik Forberg of Cumming, Takafumi Shimoji of Suwanee, and Will Stakel of Peachtree Corners.
Georgia leads the series 24-14-4.
All four Braves played in All-Star Game
Mike Foltynewicz had the “best” night of the four Braves all-stars, with a strikeout and walk in an inning as the NL’s third pitcher, following two pitchers who had each given up a run.
Freddie Freeman went 0-for-2 and Nick Markakis 0-for-1 with a walk. Ozzie Albies came on in the sixth inning, grounded out an inning later, and was pinch-hit for by Scooter Gennett, who tied the game with a homer.
Joey Votto had the game’s only error.
The AL scored three in the top of the 10th for an 8-6 win.
Macon, Savannah rained out
Macon took an early lead, real early, but the game at Savannah was stopped for the night in the top of the first with the Bacon up 1-0.
They have a regularly scheduled game Wednesday in Macon.
United a little miffed after tie with Seattle
Atlanta has to tighten some things up to avoid letting wins, especially at home, slip away.
Tech to take captains to ACC’s mediafest
A pair of captains and seniors will spread the good word on the Yellow Jackets.
