Friday's Braves Report: Great pitching not matched at the plate; breaking the slump, Gohora to be back soon, Soroka wants to help, minor-league update

Sanchez sharp, but Atlanta bats quiet

Anibal Sanchez whiffed six and gave up a run on five hits through six innings, but Arizona pitching was equal to the task in the Diamondbacks’ 2-1 win Friday.

Atlanta got one in the first and Arizona one in the sixth.

The Diamondbacks got the second run off Sam Freeman, technically, in the seventh on a walk, wild pitch by Dan Winkler, and single to center.

Atlanta wasted a leadoff walk in the seventh and one-out single in the eighth, and went down in order to Brad Boxberger in the ninth.

Freddie Freeman and Nick Markakis had two hits each for the six-hit Braves.

Winning pitcher Zack Godley went six innings with five hits, one run, seven strikeouts and a walk to improve to 11-6 while Boxberger, the fourth pitcher of the night, got save 23.
