Huge crowd at the Benz leave happy

          A crowd of 71,932 watched the generally nippy battle between Atlanta and Orlando City turn into a cruise for the home team, the United taking a 4-0 win.

          Atlanta got the only goal it needed only three minutes in, from Julian Gressel.

          The United visit Dallas on Wednesday at 8 p.m.

 

 

Fried comes up big on hill for Braves

Pitchers dual goes to Florence

          For seven innings, the pitchers ruled.

          In the eighth, Florence changed that just enough to get a 2-0 win over visiting Macon in Coastal Plain League action.

          Both teams had only three hits, and Florence had an error. The RedWolves got a two-out, two-run single from Greg Vaughn Jr.

          Amos Willingham (Georgia Tech) got the win in relief for Florence (14-10), which struck out 15 batters

          Macon hosts Florence at 5 p.m. Sunday.

 

This Week’s Signings

          Lineman and tight end Bruce Guyton of Dublin will take his skills to the northern part of the state, signing Thursday with Shorter.

         The 6-2, 255-pound two-sport standout Guyton had 61 tackles as a senior, with 14 QB pressures and 12 tackles for loss. He was a Georgia Athletic Coaches Association first-team all-state defender, and led the team in snaps.

         The Hawks had a couple Central Georgia underclassmen on last year’s roster: fullback Artie Gardner of Warner Robins and defensive back Jaren Harris of Central. Peach County’s Ethan Mann joined on signing day.
