Markakis takes lead among NL outfielders

          Nick Markakis has never gotten this much attention, and yet here he is, leading the NL outfielders in All-Star voting.

          Also leading at their positions? Freddie Freeman and Ozzie Albies.

 

Mayhem add former player to coaching staff

          Ryan Michel is moving from the ice to the side.

          The former Macon Mayhem defenseman was named as an assistant coach on Monday.

          Michel played two seasons in Macon and was a key member of the President’s Cup team.

          The 26-year-old retired after the 2016-17 season, and was an assistant at Corland State, a Division III NCAA team.

          He played in 78 SPHL games, the Camillus, N.Y. native was solid for Macon, with nine goals, 25 assists and 24 points.

          Michel’s two seasons in Macon coincided with one of head coach Leo Thomas’s two seasons as assistant. Thomas was promoted to head coach last month.
