Titus Moore qualifies for finals in national meet, takes sixth (updated)

Any doubts that Titus Moore might struggle in going from Class A private school track competition to a national elite competition can pretty much be put to rest.

After turning in the fourth-best qualifying time a few hours earlier, Moore finished sixth in the finals of the 110 hurdles at the USA Track and Field Junior Outdoor Championships in Bloomington, Ind., Friday night.

Moore ran a 14.06 in the finals, just behind Robert Teer’s 14.03 and ahead of Grant Conway’s 14.18.

Cory Poole of Florida won with a 13.34, followed by Joseph Anderson of Oregon’s 13.58.

Cam Murray, of Westlake, was third at 13.63.

Participants – high school and college athletes from 14-19 years old - were competing for spots on Team USATF, in a preliminary meet serving as a selection meet for the IIAF World U20 Championships to be held in Finland next months.

Poole and Anderson earned spots on the national team with the 1-2 finish.

Moore finished second in his heat and turned in the fourth-best qualifying time a few hours earlier Friday.

The 90-degree temperatures weren’t far off from what Moore left in Macon on Thursday.

Moore’s 13.98 was just behind the 13.95 of Murray in their heat.

Anderson had the top time of 13.71, followed by Poole with a 13.73.
