Braves snap losing streak with sizzling pitching effort

          Ronald Acuna's towering homer was all Atlanta pitching needed in a 1-0 win at Tampa Bay.

          Sean Newcomb threw six scoreless innings and four Braves relievers kept it going.

Georgia sweeps Georgia Tech with win at SunTrust

          Pitching and defense picked up the offense as No. 15 Georgia edged Georgia Tech 3-1 at SunTrust Park.

          Georgia improved to 34-14 and Tech fell to 27-22.

Mercer represented on all-conference softball teams

          Mercer's Micayla Rood is the Southern Conference's freshman of the year, and

          The Bears put catcher Megan Lane and outfielder Meghan Rud plus Rood on the first team in the SoCon, with pitche Stella Preston on the second team.

          Allie Jones joined Rood on the all-freshman team.

 

Georgia College and Central Georgians make PBC all academic baseball team

          Georgia College put a few players on the Peach Belt Conference's all-academic baseball team, and they were joined by some Central Georgians.

          From the Bobcats: Garrett Green, Brendan Holler, Logan Mattix, Nate Schmal, Matt Studdard, Harrison Veldsma, and Wesley Wommack.

          Georgia Southwestern's Dakota Long (senior from Tattnall) and North Georgia's Connor Corbitt (sophomore from Stratford) also made the team.

 

College Softball: Mercer set for SoCon Tournament

          Second-seeded Mercer doesn't have to get up too early for the SoCon tournament, taking on Western Carolina at 12:30 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C.

          It's Mercer's highest seed since joining the conference, and the Bears are 32-17 while the Catamounts are 15-35.
