Rutland wins state golf championship, good outings for Veterans, FPD, Bleckley County, among others

The Class 3A girls state golf tournament was about the last to finish play on Tuesday.
It was worth the wait for Rutland.
The Hurricanes came on strong down the stretch to pull ahead and take a two-stroke win over Bremen to win the GHSA state title.

Eujin Pyon lost three strokes from Monday, but still finished second, two shots behind Murray County’s Tori Owens.
Defending champ Carol Pyon of Rutland was fourth, four strokes back.
Veterans’ Mailey Buzzell took third in Class 5A girls, nine strokes off the lead, while the Warhawks took second in team competition, 27 behind Starr’s Mill.
Bleckley County’s girls finished second in Class AA, 10 strokes behind St. Vincent’s and nine ahead of Metter for their best finish in program history. Dodge County finished eighth, 72 strokes back.
The Royals’ Brooke Krieg finished second with a 163, just behind St. Vincent’s’ Rin Richardoson’s 159 for St. Vincent’s. Teammate McKinley Cranford is seventh at 171 and Dawson Greer tied for eighth at 175.
FPD’s boys took second with a 590, trailing Holy Innocents’ 580.
Wilson Andress and Jay Spivey were fifth and sixth, Andress five strokes behind the leader.
Stratford’s girls finished six strokes out of the lead in A Private girls for second, paced by Josie Coleman’s tie for sixth, 10 strokes back.
Dodge County’s boys were fifth in Class AA, won by Metter, which had 27 strokes on the Indians.
ACE finished sixth in Class A public girls.
Hawkinsville’s boys tied for seventh in Class A public, with Hunter Dokey fifth, seven strokes back.
Stratford was seventh in Class A Private boys, with Will Chambless 10th.
Houston County’s boys were ninth in 6A. 25 behind co-champs Gainesville and Johns Creek in the lone round, because of weather.
Veterans’ boys tied for ninth in 5A, led by Jason Cruise, who tied for ninth.
West Laurens’ Allison Wallace was tied for 10th as an individual.
