Georgia College stays alive with solid win

          Wingate went through seven pitchers with little luck as Georgia College stayed alive in the NCAA Southeast Regional with a 13-3 win.

          The second-seeded Bobcats try to stay alive again at 11 a.m. Saturday against top seed and host North Georgia, which lost 4-3 to Columbus State.

 

Braves bats take day off in home loss

          Matt Wisler came in from Triple A earlier in the day and pitched well, but the Braves had no offense in a 2-0 home loss to Miami before nearly 28,000 at SunTrust.

          Nick Markakis had three hits for Atlanta.

 

College Baseball Roundup: Mercer rained out, UGA and Tech win

          Mercer will honor its seniors before Saturday's 2 p.m. game with The Citadel, Friday's game being pushed back because of weather.

          Georgia got a walk-off run-scoring single from LJ Talley for an 8-7 win over Arkansas, giving the Bulldogs the fourth seed in the SEC Tournament.

          Georgia Tech scored a season-high in dumping No. 10 Duke 20-7, the first 20-run game since beating Savannah state 21-3 in 2016. It was the first time this season Duke has given up more than 10 runs.

 

College Softball: Georgia, Avant open NCAAs with win

          Stratford alum Mary Wilson Avant went five innings and struck out eight to lead Georgia to a 6-2 win over Harvard in the NCAA Athens Regional.

          Avant went five innings and improve to 10-3.

          The Bulldogs play Northwestern at noon Saturday.

 

Georgia's Crean finalizes staff

          As outlets reported recently, Tom Crean added Amir Abdur-Rahim to the Georgia basketball staff.

          He is the brother of former NBA first-round pick Shareef Abdur-Rahim, and has been at Georgia Tech and College of Charleston, coming to Athens from Texas A&M.

          Multi-sport athlete Jaydon Norman of Warner Robins signed Wednesday to play football at Fort Valley State, alma mater of his basketball coach Jamaal Garman.

          The school held a ceremony Wednesday that included Nelson Phillips, who signed before the season with Georgia State for basketball. ...

          Another athlete from Houston County is headed to Limestone. This time, it's Houston County track athlete Javaris Michael.

          Former Demon quarterback Ivan Corbin will be a junior on the football team, and D'Angelo Whitehead committed to Limestone in February for track. ...
