GHSA Track: Washington County girls take second; three Central Georgians get state titles on final day

 

          Washington County improved four spots from last season to take second place in the GHSA Class AA girls state track meet.

          The Golden Hawks were fourth last year with 30 points, two spots and seven spots behind East Laurens.

          Baldwin's girls had the next-best finish, taking fourth in Class 4A, won by Chapel Hill with 72.5 points.

          Veterans' girls in 5A and FPD's boys in Class A private each finished seventh.

          Mecca Jackson led Washington County with a title in the 400 and second-place finish in the 200, while running a leg in the fourth-place 4x100 relay team.

          Nijeria Jordan added points with a fourth place in the 300 hurdles.

          East Laurens and Bleckley County also finished in the top 10

          Veterans got two fourth-place finishes from Shaianne Sipsey to turn in a qualify finish in 5A and make a nice jump from a 12th-place finish a year ago.

          Titus Moore won the 110 hurdles title in Class A private boys for FPD, adding a second-place finish - not by much - in the 300 hurdles.  in the 300 hurdles, barely. His time of 38.47 was a hair behind the 38.39 of Ziggy Zoller of Holy Innocents'.

          Macon County's Trey Mathis took second in the Class A boys public 200, losing at the tape, and third in the 100. He helped the Bulldogs to a No. 5 finish, two spots ahead of Hancock Central.
