Central Georgia Tech set for national tournament debut

Central Georgia Tech has won eight straight.

Getting No. 9 would be might big.

That would mean the Titans won in their debut in the National Junior College Athletic Association national tournament on Monday night.

CGTC faces Connors State of Oklahoma at 9:30 p.m. in Hutchinson, Kansas.

The Titans, 25-8, haven’t lost since a two-game losing streak in early February, 76-69 to South Ga. State on Feb. 7 and 76-72 to Albany Tech three days later.

The Cowboys are 29-3 and ranked 13th nationally, and are in the tournament for the second straight year despite returning only two players from last year. Connors State is making its 13th trip to the national tournament.

Indian Hills (Iowa) Community College is the top seed.

Michael Laster leads the Titans with 15.5 points a game, while Jawaun Daniels adds 14.1 and Anyeuri Castillo 11.5. Laster is also good for 8.2 rebounds, Castillo 5.8, with Cheick Kone’s 6.1 in between.
