Westside's Moore going from tomahawk chop to guns up
Big-time programs remained interested in Khavon Moore even after he broke his leg last month.
The reward for that attention went to Texas Tech, Moore said Monday.

Macon, Georgia Tech get state finals assignments
If things go well for six Central Georgia high school basketball teams this week, they’ll get to play next week not far from home.
The GHSA announced the classification assignments for next week’s state championship games at the Macon Coliseum and Georgia Tech’s McCamish Pavilion.

Mercer women now consensus top 25 team
Last week, it was the coaches' poll. Now, the Associated Press writers' poll has Mercer's women in the top 25.
And so a 38-year streak is broken. Last time? Dec. 9, 1980.

Dublin duo signs with Point
Montarion Carswell and Jaden Derriso of Dublin signed Monday with Point.
Carswell helped the Irish to a 7-5 record by averaging 7.3 yard a carry.
Derriso was a three-year starter on the line, leading the Dublin ground game to 274 yards a game in 2017.

Monday's commitment update
FPD's Maurice Gordon announced Monday that he has committed to Gulf Coast State, a junior college in Panama City.
The 6-6 wing was a football and basketball standout for the Vikings.
The Commodores finished 16-13 last year.
Warner Robins defensive back and track standout D'Angelo Whitehead committed to Limestone, home of former Demons' QB Ivan Corbin.
Central girls basketball standout Je'Nya Wilder recently committed to Snead State Community College in Alabama.

SIAC names all-conference hoops teams
FVSU's James Eads made the All-SIAC men's basketball second team, as announced Sunday night.
FVSU's Alicia Franklin made honorable mention on the women's team.
Tyrius Walker of Morehouse is the men's player of the year, Lane's Kendarius Ash the top defender, and Chris Scott of Central state top newcomer. Morehouse's Grady Brewer is coach of the year.
Spring Hill's Tiffany Valentine is the player of the year and teammate Jewell Hill the top defender. Naomi Holloway of Clark Atlanta copped the top newcomer and freshman award, and Clark's Yolana Moore the top coach.

FVSU men open SIAC tournament with win
Jamaal Garror's 27-point, 10-rebound double-double paced FVSU's 88-82 win over Miles in a first-round SIAC game.
The Wildcats play Morehouse at 4:15 p.m. Wednesday.
The women lost 66-45 to Miles.
Georgia hoops loses key commitment
Ashton Hagans of Newton has decommitted, citing the uncertainty of head coach Mark Fox's future.

Former Baldwin standout Roshaun Milline of Middle Georgia State is this week's Southern States Athletic Conference player of the week after averaging 26 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists. ...
Mercer senior Kahlia Lawrence, unsurprisingly, is the Southern Conference women's basketball player of the week.
Mercer's Caroline Taylor is the SoCon softball player of the week.
Former Houston County standout, and daughter of Perry football coach Kevin Smith, Sarah Smith is the GCAA pitcher of the week after going 2-0 with 24 Ks and 5 BBs in 22.2 IP. ...
Dooly County's Izelie Hawkins Jr. is the school's student-athlete of the week: "(Hawkins) is a varsity member of the football, basketball & baseball teams. He is also on the A/B honor roll. He plans to attend Albany State University and become a physical therapist assistant or an athletic trainer."
Georgia baseball outfielder Keegan McGovern had him a week.
The Dean's List student batted .571 with 5 homers, 9 RBI and 9 runs as the Bulldogs went 4-o. The biology major is from Willacoochee.
