GHSA basketball: Wednesday's results, Thursday's schedule; rough night for Central Georgia teams

 

          Region and region finish accompany each team. Records are based on what's reported by teams to Maxpreps. Class A seedings are listed.

Second Round

GIRLS

Class 6A

R4 1 Lovejoy 52, R1 3 Northside 23

    Northside got off to a decent start, holding the hosts to 2 first-quarter points. But a 21-7 second quarter, inspired by defense and turnovers, got Lovejoy going.

Class 4A

R4 1 Henry County 82, R2 2 Upson-Lee 61

     The upstart Knights gave a good accounting, after trailing 19-6 in the first quarter and 40-28 at halftime. Upson-Lee pulled within a possession in the second half, but the Warhawks regained control and pulled away.

R1 1 Carver-Columbus 84, R3 2 Baldwin 65

 

Class 3A

R4 1 Peach County 53, R2 2 Pierce County 42

          The Trojans got 19 points from Da'Nasia Shaw, 10 in the fourth quarter. Deja Holland added 14 for Peach County, which held Pierce County to 3 first-quarter points. The Trojans will await a coin toss to determine the site of its next game, with Franklin County.

R2 1 Tattnall County 54, R4 2 Central 45

Lamar County's Tomiyah Alford went over the 1,000-point mark in the loss to Rabun County.

          Central had the great start, Tattnall County the great finishing, overcoming a 14-0 start by the Chargers.

 

Class AA

R3 1 Dodge County 73, R1 2 Early County 65

          Destinee Wright turned in a major performance with 28 points, 20.4 percent of the Indians' points. Europe Brown added 18, Zannesia Mitchell 14 and LaShauna Coley.

R1 1 Fitzgerald 68, R3 2 Washington County 65

          The good news was that Tomiyah Alford cracked 1,000 points for her career. The bad news was that the Trojans' season came to an end against a quality team ranked in two of the state's three polls.

 

Class A-Private

4/Stratford 56, 13/Landmark Christian 41

      The Eaglettes tried to pull away, starting off with an 8-0 run and leading 32-15 with 3 minutes left in the half only for the visitors to pull within 10 at the break. Stratford kept a comfortable lead, though, in the second half.

     Greg Holloway's 19-point, 11-rebound double-double led the way for the Seminoles, who got a battle from the sub-.500 Cougars.
