Ed Smith is known mostly for his 15 years as Stratford’s girls basketball coach.
Now he can be known for winning 500 games, too.
That happened Friday night as the Eaglettes cruised past city rival FPD 59-24.
Smith has also coached at Brentwood in Sandersville and Briarwood, and is now 315-87 at Stratford, which improved t0 11-2. Stratford’s boy won by 13 to sweep the night.
Bleckley County swept East Laurens in a pair of tight games
It was a rough night for some girls teams, Warner Robins getting thumped at Harris County and Veterans losing big at Bainbridge, among others. Southwest nipped Northeast in a rivalry region game, while Westside lost a heartbreaker.
Washington County’s boys edged Dublin on some late free throws in a big region showdown, helping the Golden Hawks to a sweep. Macon County thumped Crawford County twice.
