GHSA FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS

Semifinals

Class AAAAA

Carver (12-1) at Warner Robins (13-0)

Warner Robins is healthier than Jones County, which still had chances to beat Carver in the quarters. The Demons will thus be a little better prepared for the height and athleticism. And Warner Robins is coming off a monster quarterfinal win and near-perfect execution.

Maxwell Ratings margin: Warner Robins by 17

The Sports Report says: The Demons continue to avoid compounding mistakes or going through stretches of subpar play, and they take advantage when the opposition does that. They’ll have more chances to do that in this one, but a rerun of last week’s rout, simply because of the stage, is unlikely. Agreed.

Next: Rome or Buford, 4:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8.

Class AAAA

Blessed Trinity (11-2) at Mary Persons (11-2)

The teams are even in many ways, but the Titans are probably better than last year and the Bulldogs not quite as good, mainly because of so many graduates on defense. No reason this one should go down to the wire like last year’s game, and the hosts have a kicking advantage. Can the hosts defense get off the field against a grinding offense?

Maxwell Ratings margin: Blessed Trinity by 11.

The Sports Report says: The atmosphere should be classic, and it’s be a surprise if the game wasn’t close to that, at least in competitiveness. The visitors have more weapons, and the Bulldogs are a bit of a surprise to be this far. Blessed Trinity by 4.

Next: Marist or St. Pius, 4:30 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 9.

Class AAA

Peach County (12-1) at Greater Atlanta Christian (12-1)

Peach County doesn’t have all of its starters, being down a wideout, running back and defensive back. But the Trojans haven’t shown that they’re undermanned, and were pretty much on point, especially in the second half, last week in routing Westminster. There’ll be some chess-match action going on.

Maxwell Ratings margin: Greater Atlanta Christian by 10

The Sports Report says: The Trojans ignore pretty much anything and everything going on around them, and they’ve fared well on the road, at modern facilities or those more like their aged home turf. Peach County by 6.

Next: Cedar Grove or Calhoun, 1 p.m., Friday, Dec. 8.
