Veterans alum Bolton working to get on field for improved Army

Jeff Monken was thrilled to get Rashaad Bolton from Veterans.

Now, the Army head coach would like to be able to get Bolton on the field for more than a few snaps.

“We were excited about getting him,” Monken said Monday night after visiting the Macon Touchdown Club. “He’s a tough kid, cares very much about improvement, about our team, will do - like all of our guys – whatever’s asked of him. He just wants to contribute.”

Find the spot for him to do that has been an issue.

“We had him at linebacker as a freshman,” Monken said. “We moved him to running back last spring.

“We tried him at defense, and felt like offense might be a place we could get him on the field. It’s a good problem for us to have guys we think (can play).

“He’s just getting in the groove. It’s hard to go from one side of the ball to the other.”

Monken said Bolton will have to work awfully hard to be out the more experienced players in front of him. He’s in a crowded and fairly experience running back group.

“Darnell Woolfolk, Andy Davidson, and Calen Holt are all a year ahead of him, and Connor Slomka is the same class,” Monken said. “It’s a traffic jam. We’ve got over 150 players on our team. They get logjammed, and when there’s good players at your position, it’s hard. It’s hard to sneak through all that stuff.”
