Longtime Warner Robins football coach Fendley passes away
There are many names who have been associated with Warner Robins football throughout the years, and Richard Fendley was one.
He wasn't a big personality like Robert Davis, but his impact at Warner Robins was as immeasurable, including the Richard Fendley Relays track meet, which have taken place for more than 30 years.
Fendley died Sunday at the age of 77.
Fendley was a longtime assistant, 25 years worth, who took over the Demons in 1997 when Davis was hired at Westside in Macon.
He retired after the 2002 season with a six-year record of 52-18-0, with two region titles.
Fendley grew up in Eatonton, and coached at Columbus and old Lanier in Macon before becoming a Demon.
Fendley served as interim head coach at Warner Robins in 1992 when Davis underwent heart surgery in late October of that year. Davis returned a month later, the Demons going 3-0 under Fendley, including a 14-10 win over Northside.
Here is the full obituary.
Fendley, whose son Richard Jr. is an assistant at Westside, also participated in the “Demons Through The Decades” reunions in recent years.
