Henley creeps closer to the top 10
Russell Henley got back on track with a solid Saturday at the Tour Championship in Atlanta.
But the final playoff event’s staggered scoring pretty much makes it all about the payout outside of the top two or three players.
Henley shot a second 4-under and is tied for 13th, but sits in a group a whopping 16 shots behind leader – based on par scores staggered to open the tournament Scottie Scheffler.
Under normal scoring circumstances, Henley would be 9 shots back of Collin Morikawa, who has the low score at 196 and in a group tied for seventh.
Granted, a 9-shot hole is almost impossible to erase, but it’s certainly more respectable than being 16 shots back. And no doubt after the first round, playing for position and respectable scores gave way to thinking about a win.
Henley rolled through the renovated course for the second time in three rounds, with five birdies and one bogey, needing to hit a 16-footer on No. 10 for par and missing by a few feet.
He yet again conquered the par 5s, which have mostly conquered him this season, with two pars and a birdie.
Henley tees off at 11:54 a.m. with defending Tour champ Viktor Hovland.
