Division I (5A, 4A, 3A) 12 teams

5. Mary Persons

          The Bulldogs took care of business, and again, against Jackson, with the second straight shutout, which last happened in 1990-20 when Jackson did it.

4. Jones County

          Murmurs that perhaps the talent level had dripped noticeably seem to be, yeah, murmurs, and a little silly. Momentum for a youngish team is big.

3. Warner Robins

          The Demons rebounded well from the loss to Lee County, and are again a solid favorite this week against Northside.

2. Perry

          86 points in the first two games. Last year, the Panthers had 89. Still quite on track.

1. Houston County

          Favored by a lot last week, the Bears won by 3, but it was against an underrated team. And now, Perry. Hmm.

Division II (2A, A, GIAA) 33 teams  

10. Wilkinson County

          It’s easy to forget about the Warriors. The last time they were 2-0 was 2011. This week at Jasper County is a statement week.

9. Stratford

          The transition to a new staff so far has been a good one, although the competition has been iffy. Still, handling iffy competition is notable.

8. FPD

          The Vikings won a tight defensive game on the road, and then opened things up at home. The defense of a title is on target so far.

7. Bleckley County

          Odds were against a last-play miracle against Dodge County, a not-sharp game on either side. But it’s going to be a Six Flags ride for half of this region every week.

6. ACE Charter

          The Gryphons broke in a new turf field in style, getting over first-game sluggishness pretty quickly, a good sign for a still-young program.     

5. Dodge County

          It’s not much of a surprise Dodge County beat Bleckley County, except for surviving that many mistakes. The Indians have to follow it up.

4. Northeast

          The Raiders looked a lot more like expected against Southwest, taking care of business even with Nick Woodford limited. Still work to do.

3. Lamar County

          The Trojans won their sixth straight season opener, and are likely start 4-0 before region begins.

2. John Milledge

          The opener was a surprise. The answer wasn’t. Are there any challenges coming the next few weeks?

1. Dublin

          The Irish have outscored Swainsboro and East Laurens 107-47. Sure feels familiar.
