Newsy day for Macon Bacon
Pure baseball weather and a well-manicured Luther Williams grass hosted a Macon Bacon fans and media gathering in which team president Brandon Raphael shared three notable news items.
For one, the team and Macon have extended the contract to play at Luther Williams Field until 2037, a 10-year extension.
The Bacon, in the Coastal Plain League, have been in Macon since 2018.
CPL commissioner Chip Allen announced that Macon will host the CPL’s all-star festivities in 2025.
And he announced a new ownership group, of which he is part.
Franchise owner Steve DeLay put the team up for sale almost a year ago. He also owns the Florence team, and teamed with Jon Spoelstra to bring a team to Macon. DeLay has had the team on the block for nearly a year.
Raphael, the team’s president is part of a new ownership group, buying the team from Steve Delay, who has had the team on the selling block for nearly a year.
The team had no information in a short news release on the members of the new ownership group.
Raphael introduced five new owners who were on hand for the press conference; Dan Erthal (Erthal Chiropractic), Ron Shipman (retired, Georgia Power and Macon Water Authority), Bert Satcher (retired attorney), and Jonathan Pitts (Macon Occupational Medicine), and Austin Karp (Macon Bacon).
New owners not attending: Richie Moore (Minuteman Press), Kevin West, Courtney Pedeford (Macon native, surgeon), Chris and Sara Bunch (San Antonio), and Pat Clynes (Houston).
