Henley moves into serious contention

Russell Henley ended the day with a bogey, but it wasnā€™t a bad day at all.

Henley countered two bogeys with five birdies and moved into a tie for second after two rounds of the Valero Texas Open.

His 138 has him locked in with Brendon Todd and Denny McCarthy, the trio five shots back of Akshay Bhatia, who shot a 2-under, seven shots worse than his opening round.

Henley matched his first round, while Todd lost six shots and McCarthy two.

The cut was 1 over, and it ended the weekend for Zach Johnson, Erik van Rooyen, Matt Kuchar, Billy Horschel, Byeong Hun An, Harris English, and Seamus Power, among others.

Henley tees off at 12:35 p.m., with leader Bhatia and Todd. The Golf Channel takes over TV coverage at 1 p.m.
