Henley battles inconsistency in first round

The back nine started off with promise for Russell Henley at the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches, with a pair of birdies.

They were part of a streak of four that followed two bogeys on the front nine. But time spent at 2 under was minimal, two more bogeys dropping Henley to even for the first round in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.

Henley is one of more than two dozen players at even, tied for 98th. They’re only 7 back of co-leaders Chad Ramey and S.H. Kim in the 144-player field.

Henley was just off, missing on a 9-foot par putt on 2 and 7-footer on 7. On 14, he needed a drop on a hole that could’ve been much worse than a bogey, and he missed an 11-footer for par on 16.
