GMC Prep promotes assistant to head football coach

Gavin Tierce hasn’t been at GMC Prep very long, but he’s moved up the short football ladder pretty quickly.

The school announced Wednesday afternoon that Tierce had been promoted to be the Bulldogs’ newest head football coach.

He succeeds Bobby Rhoades, who resigned in December after taking the job last Febuary. He replaced Lee Coleman, who left after four seasons and a 23-20 record, boosted by an historic 10-1 season in 2021.

GMC went 3-7 last season, and has had only four winning seasons this century.

“Being a head football coach has been a dream of mine since I first stepped on the field as a player,” Tierce said in the school’s statement on social media. “I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to lead the Bulldogs and contribute to the lasting legacy of success at Georgia Military College Prep School.

“GMC is such an amazing and supportive community, and being a part of this family has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.”

Tierce came to GMC over the summer from Dade County, on the state line with Tennessee as part of metro Chattanooga. He coached the offensive line last fall with GMC, but was the strength & conditioning and run-game coordinator at Dade County.

He graduated from Dade County in 2018, having played linebacker and on the offensive line.
