State GIAA wrestling champs at Mount de Sales, Westfield, and Piedmont

          Five Central Georgia competitors took first places in the GIAA boys wrestling state tournament over the weekend.

          Strong Rock won the team title with 270 points. Piedmont was third with 183.5, and Mount de Sales sixth with 124 points. Windsor took 12th with 53 points, FPD 14th with 49, Gatewood 16h with 35.

          Stratford was 20th (31 points), followed by No. 22 Twiggs Academy (20), No. 23 John Milledge (16), and No. 26 Trinity Christian (7)

          At 106, Desmond Brown of Mount de Sales won by fall in 57 seconds over Westfield’s Tres Butts for the title.

          Westfield’s Daniel Sapp is the latest member of that family to win, taking down Stratford’s Sanford Horne in 1:53 at 120.

          Boone Pope of Piedmont won by fall in 4:17 to win at 144, Dean Massey of Westfield winning the same way in 4:00 at 175..

          Mount de Sales’ Carter Sparks took the title at 285 in a fall that took 60 seconds.

          Mount de Sales’ Blake Jones took second at 113, as did Westfield’s Asher Neubauer at 138 (7-6 decision). Jamus Wingate of Piedmont lost 6-5 in the 165 class.

          In girls action, Mount de Sales’ Kirra Mitchell won titles at 100 and 105, teammates Mary Clare Clark taking it at 135 and Makayala Batchelor at 145 and 155. Piedmont’s Tazarya Lindsey won the 170 title.
