Northside mourns loss of longtime Eagle Dyson
Called the “original Mr. Northside” by many, Edward Dyson died on Saturday at the age of 82 under hospice care in Warner Robins.
Dyson attended Fort Valley State College on a basketball scholarship, and started his long career in education at as a math teacher in Perry in 1964. He was drafted into the military in 1969, and returned to Perry as a high school teacher and coach.
He started at Northside in 1970, coaching football, basketball, track, and even JV cheerleading.
Dyson became Northside’s principal in 1980, for 20 years. The school’s baseball field is named for him.
Dyson was involved in a versatile spectrum of clubs and organizations, many with a strong religious and faith-based connection, in and out of the school system.
He is survived by his wife Silvonia, daughters Leslie Dyson and Rebecca Heyward, scores of grandchildren and great grandchildren, and other relatives.
The viewing is on Thursday from 4-7 at McCullough Funeral Home on South Houston Lake Road in Warner Robins.
The life celebration will be on 11 a.m. on Friday at First Baptist Church on Garmon St. in Warner Robins.
