Tattnall will soon play at Barney Hester Stadium
Tattnallās Board of Trustees on Tuesday announced what appeared to be inevitable.
The schoolās football stadium will be named after the person most associated public with the school itself, as a head coach and headmaster, Barney Hester.
By the time Hester left Tattnall after the 2012, he had spent a little more than half of his life on Trojan Trail, as athletics director from 1982-98, head football coach from 1982-2012, and headmaster from 1998-2009.
The Trojans won 11 GISA state football titles from 1988-2011, and Hester led the track team to six state and 10 region championships. He was the Macon Touchdown Club local of the year five times and state GISA top coach a dozen times.
He went into the Macon Sports Hall of Fame in 2006 and Tattnallās in 2014.
Hester went 306-79-7 at Tattnall, before moving on to Howard and then becoming the Bibb County public schools athletics director. Up next is being sworn in to the Bibb Count Board of Education in January.
The Trojans will have a new head coach in August when they play their first game of 2025 in the confines of Jack Baynes Field at Barney Hester Stadium.
