Alumni Update

Jones County alum Finney to sign awaited UFC contract in Macon

About a decade ago, Torrez Finney was an almost unblockable 5-foot-7 defensive lineman at Jones County.

Now, he’s set to become a contract competitor in the UFC.

After Tuesday’s one-round win in the Dana White Contender Series in Las Vegas, the former Greyhound heard what he’s been waiting for.

          Welcome to the UFC.

Finney will be in Macon afternoon to celebrate the competitive promotion and contract signing at 4 p.m. at the Tubman Museum.

One of Central Georgia’s and the state’s elite high school wrestlers, Finney won two state titles and went 40-0 as a senior.

He was a two-time all-state football pick at Jones County, graduating in 2016 and playing at Tennessee-Chattnaooga from 2016-2020, competing in 21 games, missing time because injury.

Finney, who turns 26 on Oct. 24, was an honor roll and/or Dean’s List student in four years at UTC, and was on the wrestling team one season. He graduated with a degree in health and human performance and a minor in communications in December of 2020.
