Services announced for Rodney Collins
A celebration of life for Stratford's Rodney Collins will be held Saturday at Ingleside Baptist Church at 1 p.m. with a visitation to follow.
Collins, who was Stratford’s winningest head football coach covering two stints and more than two decades, died Tuesday night at the age of 75.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wanda, daughter Shannon Collins Dickerson and son Chad Collins, sister Cathy Seagraves, three grandchildren, in-laws and nieces and nephews.
Here is Collins’ obituary.
Henley has nice round to finish Sentry
Russell Henley made it through 15 holes and five birdies before being interrupted with a bogey in the final round of The Sentry in Hawaii.
But he finished the tournament with a birdie for a final-round 5-under 68 on Sunday, which wasn’t good enough to prevent him from slipping on the leaderboard.
On a day when every player in the field shot at least 2-under or better, Henley fell two spots to finish in a tie for 52nd in the 59-player field. It was still good enough to take home $54,500 in prize money.
Henley came up a few feet short on an 11-foot putt on No. 7, his 17th hole, to miss out on a bogey-free round. He followed with a 51-footer for birdie, and parred the final hole, a 548-yard par 5.
Henley will stay in the vacation hot spot this week for the Sony Open. The Sony was his first win as a pro back in 2013, and he finished second in a playoff in 2022, tying for 32nd last year.
