Rutland, Southwest battle

Thompson Stadium hosts a battle of teams needing a win to take a step forward in the run for a postseason spot in Region 2-AA.
Rutland and Southwest are 2-3 and 1-1, among four 1-1 teams. The Hurricanes and Patriots are, at this point, in a battle with Kendrick for the fourth spot, behind contenders Northeast, Spencer, and ACE.
The Hurricanes are again 2-3, and lost 33-14 last year en route to a 5-5 season. The Patriots were 1-4.
Rutland gave defending region champ Spencer a battle last week, but couldn’t muster a second-half rally in a 26-7 loss.
The Hurricanes are led by QB Marquies Lattner, who averages 86.6 yards a game rushing, and has 515 yards passing, Jordan Green with eight catches for 214 yards and three touchdowns. No defensive stats have been input on MaxPreps.
Chase Dupree has 1,236 passing yards for Southwest, a 48-6 loser to Northeast last week, with 11 TDs and eight interceptions. Carmelo Mays has caught 19 passes for 397 yards and four scores, James May leading on the ground with 259 yards on 40 carries.
Christian Hill and Rinaldo Callaway team for 16 tackles a game for the Patriots’ defense.
