          Shaniyah Gibson whiffed 10 for ACE in the opener with a four-inning no-hitter. Sophie Denny had three of ACEā€™s 13 hits, the Gryphons aided by six errors and six unearned runs. Five errors led to eight unearned runs in the nightcap, Gibson driving in three runs on two hits.

Brentwood 5, Edmund Burke 2

Houston County 8, Thomas County Central 0, 6 inn.

          Three pitchers ā€“ Jacy Harrelson, Ally Fleming, and Tess Rollins - combined for a two-hit shutout, Claire McArthur adding an offensive spark with a two-run homer in the sixth. Hayle McElroy had three hits for the Bears, Harrelson and Arianah McKenzie with two hits each.

Howard 17, Eagleā€™s Landing 6

          The Huskies doubled up the hosts 14-7 in his, and rolled despite stranding 11 runners. Abby Hardy had three hits, three runs, and three RBI for Howard, with two-hit nights from Nakeria Mallory, Jayla Evans, Trinity Wilkins, and Layla James. Anna Nash struck out seven in a complete game for Howard (7-6, hosts Westside on Thursday).

Rutland-Central face off in region action

          Rutland and first-year head coach Anthony Williams are the nex team in the way of the first points and win for Central and first-year head coach Jarrett Laws.

          The teams play Thursday at Ed DeFore.

          Rutland is 1-2, with a season-opening win over Towers, followed by a 34-20 loss to Class A Hawkinsville and 49-32 loss to 4A Westside.

          Central has been outscored 161-0 by 4A Westside and Howard and AA Worth County.

          Rutland won 26-19 last year.
