Cox (FPD/Mercer) makes starting debut in majors, and …

What has happened to Hall of Famers in their debut as a starter happened to Austin Cox.

The honeymoon ended – or was at least disrupted - for the FPD grad and former Mercer standout on Wednesday in Kansas City’s 14-1 loss to Cleveland.

Cox went 3.2 innings, and gave up four runs, four hits, and four walks with two strikeouts and a homer, a third-inning grand slam. He threw 39 strikes on 68 pitches.

He still has impressive numbers: 2.25 ERA, .113 opponents batting average, 15 strikeouts to eight walks.

The night ended Cox’s great starting run, going 39 batters without giving up a hit, now allowing six hits in 16 innings.
