GHSA Playoffs

Houston County 6, Blessed Trinity 1
Carson Small pitched six solid innings to lead the Bears in a battle of two of the state’s top teams, keyed by escaping a bases-loaded, no-outs mess early. The Bears – who lost the third-game coin flip and were the visitors - scored all of their runs in the fourth, opening up with two hit batters and a run-scoring single from Kai Decker. Ryker Chavis brought in two with a double, and two walks followed a pitching change. Eli Stephens followed with a two-run single against another new pitcher, and Drew Burress double in another run. Small retired seven straight before the Titans got a run on a sacrifice fly in the sixth, and then managed a lonely walk in the seventh against Burress, the Bears improving to 32-6.

The Vikings went from a 5-0 lead to a 5-all tie in the clincher, then put up four in the bottom of the fifth to regain control. Tinsley Lewis, BJ Hughes, Reynolds Handberry, and Lucas Buckner all had RBI singles in the fifth for FPD, the Vikings aided by an error. Conner Strandmark and Buckner kept the visitors in check in the final three innings. FPD started and finished strong in the day’s first game, with three in the first and four in the seventh. Strandmark was big on the mound, with an 82-pitch four-hitter, overcoming two hit batters and a wild pitch. Gavin Spillers drove in fours runs on two homers, and Keon Johnson two on two, both doubles.
