Two Central Georgia counties can boast twos tate champions after the first day of the GHSA state track meets finished up around the state.

Dublin's Ramontei Dardy and West Laurens' MaKayla Register won individual titles in their classes and events, and GMC's girls and boys 4x800 relay teams took first.

Bleckley County's girls snagged that relay race.

A dozen girls teams from Central Georgia and 16 boys teams scored points after a day of field events and the 4x800 relay.

Only one school in 5A and one in 3A managed points (Jones County and Mary Persons).

Both teams from Veterans, Baldwin, Northeast, Bleckley County, Lamar County, Hawkinsville, and GMC scored points, meaning a top-8 finish.

Dardy racked up a personal best in winning the Class A/Division I boys discus for the second straight year.

Register added a fifth-place in the discus to her championship in the Class 4A girls shot. Register won the shot last year and was second in the discus, after taking second fourth two years ago.

GMC's boys won the 4x800 by less than two seconds, following up last year's A Private championship.

Last year, Central Georgia started with six individual titles and one relay.

Action resumes Friday morning at noon with more running preliminaries, with finals in the 3,200-meter run in one class at all venues. Hugh Mills Stadium Albany hosts 3A and 4A, with 5A and A/II at Kinnett Stadium in Columbus. McEachern High in Powder Springs welcomes 2A and 7A, with A/I, 6A, and adapted at Barron Stadium in Rome.
