Alumni Update

Westside’s Reeves announces transfer decision

Kowacie Reeves Jr. will continue his college basketball career closer to home, the Westside grad telling 247Sports on Friday.

A top-75 prospect out of Westside, Reeves picked Georgia Tech and new head coach Damon Stoudamire, over Boston College, Loyola-Chicago, and Georgia State, among others, including Kansas, St. John’s, and Mississippi State. He’s among the top 50 portal players.

The 6-6, 195-pound sophomore started in 17 of 60 games in two seasons at Florida. He averaged 15.6 and 19.4 minutes, with six more assists and 16 more turnovers as a sophomore under new head coach Todd Golden.

He averaged 5.5 and 8.5 points, but his minutes fluctuated more in his second year, getting 27, 23, and 24 minutes in a stretch against Texas A&M, Georgia, and LSU, and then dropping to 11 and 12 against Missouri and Texas A&M.

Reeves had 13 double-digit scoring games in 2022-23, topped by 20 against Ohio.

He had six as a freshman, with 21 in an SEC Tournament OT loss to Texas A&M, starting a three-game stretch to end the season that included 14 points against Iona and Xavier in the National Invitation Tournament under interim head coach Al Pinkins, in charge after head coach Mike White resigned days earlier to take the Georgia job.
