FPD, Brentwood duos win GIAA state tennis titles
Olivia Guzzo and Abby Gayle Moody of FPD and Brentwood’s Jon Alston Lewis and Wells Muller are the lone players bringing home a state title trophy from the GIAA tennis tournament held Monday and Tuesday at Berry College.
The GIAA posted incomplete and inaccurate results late Tuesday, listing different AA boys doubles winners, and not listing the winner of the Brentwood-David Emanuel semifinal, correcting both Wednesday morning. No updates were noted on social media.
Scores were not posted by the GIAA for the two days of action.
The second-seed Vikings pair had a first-round bye, then beat twosomes from Bethlehem Christian, Brookstone, and Rivers to reach the final, where they topped Brookstone’s Cam Middleton and Blakely Waddell, the fourth seed.
Lewis and Mueller beat teams from LaGrange, Westwood, and David Emanuel before topping T.C. Moye and Frederick Lanier of Westwood in the final. Muller teamed with Thomas Denton to win last year’s title.
The GIAA has AAA and AA classifications for tennis. The team tournament is next week at the South Bibb Recreation Center and John Drew Smith Tennis Center.
