Mercer basketball players hit the portal

The latest portal period blizzard has started, and Mercer is dealing with some departures.

As of mid-afternoon Wednesday, five Mercer men’s players and one women’s player have entered the portal.

On the men’s side, starters Kamar Robertson and James Glisson – listed as graduates – have entered, as have center Shannon Grant, junior guard Shawn Walker, and freshman David Craig.

Robertson was second with 10.6 points a game and Walker third with 8.5 points. Glisson, who missed a chunk of time and played in 22 of 33 games, averaged 5.6 points and 3.9 rebounds.

Roberts was introduced on senior day, along with Harrison Drake, Luis Hurtado Jr., Diego Rivera, and John Treanor. Hurtado is a graduate, and Treanor is a junior.

Craig, a 7-2 project, averaged 5.5 points and 4.2 rebounds in 26 games. Grant played in 19 games, getting 5.1 points and 3.3 rebounds.

That unofficially leaves Mercer with six players on the roster, including FPD grad Jordan Jones and Veterans grad TJ Grant, as well as leading scorer and rebounder Jalyn McCreary.

Sophomore shooting guard Erin Houpt, from Illinois, is in the women’s portal after averaging 12.6 points and hitting 41.9 percent of her 3-pointers last season. She was a preseason all-conference pick.

Starters Jaron Dougherty, Amoria Neal-Tysor, and Brittany Reeves were introduced on senior day, all using up their full eligibility.

The Bears, as per the roster in late-season game notes, now return 10 players.
