State wrestlers invade Coliseum for GHSA traditional championship
Macon is the center of the Georgia high school wrestling world for the next three days with the start of the GHSA traditional wrestling tournament.
Jones County leads the Central Georgia contingent with nine qualifiers, followed by East Laurens with eight, with five from Lamar County and Putnam County,
Veteransā Latrell Schafer (48-0, 175 pounds), Mary Personsā Anthony Mannella (45-1, 157 pounds), Northeastās JeāQuez Robinson (30-1, 215), and Veteransā Damien Johnson (45-2, 120), and Dodge Countyās Dayvion Huttoe (39-3, 120) are among the top Central Georgia wrestlers in their classifications.
Schafer won the 5A 145 title last year, Mannella taking 160 in 4A.
Last year, West Laurens followed up its duals state title by winning the Class 4A traditional championship last year, led by career standout Chase Horne, now at N.C. State.
Veterans was sixth in Class 5A and Perry 10th in 4A. Veterans is now in 6A, and the field no longer has Macon teams Mount de Sales (17th in Class A), Tattnall, Stratford, and FPD.
Tickets are $15 per day, or $35 for a three-day pass and $25 for a two-day pass. Action begins at 8 a.m. Live results are posted on www.trackwrestling.com.
