Bleckley County takes home state cross country hardware
After a two-year “drought”, Bleckley County’s girls are back on a cross country state championship streak, bringing home Friday their second GHSA trophy in a row.
The Royals won the Class A/Division II title again, boosted by a first place from Ella Gibbs.
Caleb Darsey of Bleckley County won the boys title, and Julian Council of GMC Prep was first in Class A/Division II.
Bleckley County’s boys took fourth with 121 points, Whitefield Academy winning with 62.

Julian Council, GMC Prep, A/II, 17:15.03
Council edged Guy Mastrion of Atlanta Classical 17:15.03 to 17:16.84.
Gibbs’ teammate Lily Farrell took fifth in 20:06.73, Gibbs winning by nearly a half-minute. Ellen Arnold finished ninth (20:45.53) with Jasper County’s Colbie Ramsey 11th (21:11.53), Bleckley County’s Kayslen Armstrong 14th (21:19.93) and Ava Herrington 18th (21:19.93)
Darsey won by just less than five seconds.
GMC’s boys took fourth in A/II with 107 points, Atlanta Classical Academy winning with 80 points.
The Bulldogs girls took fifth with 156 points, behind ACA’s 67.
Jasper County’s girls finished 15th in A/1, the boys taking 14th, East Laurens 18th.
Jones County’s Lilly Palmer finished 18th (20:24.69) in Class 5A girls, helping the Greyhounds to a 14th-place finish.
The other classes compete Saturday morning.
