Macon Touchdown Club taps Southwest, Rutland, Northeast
Back of the week: Sophomore quarterback Chase Dupree of Southwest completed 27 of 44 passes for 415 yds and seven touchdowns in the 52-51 double-overtime win over ACE. 7 touchdowns. He also rushed seven times times for 30 yds. Accounting for 445 yards.
Lineman: Rutland senior defensive end Christiaan Krietzer had 10 tackles, four for loss, a sack, and forced fumble in the 41-14 win over Kendrick.
Special teams: Northeast senior Orintae Curry returned two punts for 95 yards, one for a touchdown. The DB/KR also had two tackles in the 49-0 win over Jordan.
Maconite Hatcher to visit Macon Touchdown Club
Mount de Sales grad Chris Hatcher is this week’s speaker at the Macon Touchdown Club.
The club meets at the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, in the Rumford Center, at 304 Pierce Ave. It starts at 6:30 p.m. with dinner and the program to begin around 7. Admission for non-members is $30.
Former Florida wideout Chris Doering of ESPN and the SEC Network, and then ex-Florida coach Dan Mullen on Nov. 13.
Hatcher is in his ninth season at Samford, and is 52-38 after Saturday’s 37-7 win over The Citadel. He is 172-95 in 23 seasons at Valdosta State (76-12), Georgia Southern (18-15), Murray State (27-30), and Samford.
The Mount de Sales grad led Valdosta State as a player, passing for 11,363 yards and 121 touchdowns, earning the Harlon Hill Trophy – Division II’s Heisman – in 1994.
He returned to VSU as head coach and led the Blazers to the Division I national title.
The Bulldogs are trying for their seventh winning season in nine under Hatcher. Samford has several Central Georgians: QB Jim Coleman of Trinity Christian, LB Josiah Cotton of Mount de Sales, OL Luke Byrne of Mary Persons, and OL Jabari Brooks of Washington County,
Hatcher will be back in town when the Bulldogs visit Mercer on Nov. 11.
