Warner Robins grad Owens cracks 1,000 at Valdosta State
Jacolbey Owens knows how to do things in style.
Back on March 8, 2018, Owens hit the buzzer-beating game-winner to give Warner Robins the GHSA Class 5A state title, 67-64 over Miller Grove.
Saturday, he went over the 1,000-point mark in his third season at Valdosta State, and did so with a tough off-balance runner in the lane in the Blazers 93-44 Gulf South win over visiting Delta State.
His shot with 4:48 left in the game put VSU up 79-30, and led to an ovation and game stoppage, and then the emptying of the bench.
Owens scored 661 points in two seasons at Gulf Coast State College, and is the second Central Georgia product from that school to crack 1,000 NCAA points this season, joining Mary Personsā Cam Holden at Towson earlier this month.
The two played together in x and helped the Commodores to a 38-22 record in two seasons, including 24-7 in 2019-20, the programās best mark since the mid 1970s.
Owens isnāt the only Central Georgian helping the Blazers to a 14-8/10-6 record. FPD grad Maurice Gordon is fourth on the team in minutes and rebounds (4.6 rpg), and sixth with 9.4 points a game.
Gordon also played at Gulf Coast with Owens and Holden.
