Around/About Central Georgia
Henley keeps solid play going
While his home state stressed its way through wretched weather, Russell Henley was having a good time in Hawaii.
Working.
The Stratford grad closed strong and shot a 3-under 67 for a tie for 22nd in the Sony Open in Honolulu.
Henley is tied with former Georgia teammate Brian Harman, among others, four back of leaders Chris Kirk< Jordan Spieth, and Taylor Montgomery.
The day started off with some hiccups, Henley bogeying his second and third hole, but he countered with two birdies for an even first nine.
He warmed up at the end, with birdies on three of the final five holes.
A year ago, Henley had a monster tournament only for a tournament-winning putt on the final hole to lip out, Hideki Matsuyama winning in a playoff. Henley became the second player ever on Tour with a final-round 65 and 54-hole lead to not win. Matsuyama is tied for 41st with a 68.
Henley led much of last yearâs tournament en route to a second-place finish after shooting 23-under. Itâs also the site of his first PGA win, back in 2013.
