FVSU takes down Tuskegee for second straight year
Emanuel Wilson showed why he earned first-team All-SIAC preseason honors at running back.
The junior from Charlotte ran for 262 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries to lead Fort Valley State to a 21-6 win over Tuskegee in the Red Tails Classic in Montgomery, Ala.
Quarterback Kelvin Durham had a clutch night, with 48 yards on eight carries, and no interceptions on a pedestrian 6-of-17 game passing for 51 yards.
Warner Robins alum Corey Petty led Tuskegee with four catches for 43 yards.
FVSUās defense held Tuskegee to 78 yards rushing and 131 yards passing, only 209 yards total offense to 379 for the Wildcats on seven fewer plays.
The Wildcats survived 13 penalties for 146 yards, thanks in part to nine for 100 by the Golden Tigers.
FVSU never trailed, Durham getting it started with a 10-yard run less than six minutes into the game. Wilson got on the board with a 3-yard run a quarter later. Tuskegee scored three minutes later on a 10-yard pass, but the PAT was blocked, and it settled at 14-6 at halftime.
It stayed that way through the third quarter, FVSU unable to score despite being in control. The Wildcats put it away at the 11:34 mark of the fourth quarter when Wilson went 87 yards on a possessionās first play.
FVSU forced a punt after three first downs on TUās next possession, and then ran out the final 6:02.
A year ago in this game, FVSU won 30-0 and held Tuskegee to 103 yards total offense.
Tim Alderman, a sophomore from Peach County, was tied for third with five tackles, adding 1.5 tackles for loss and a 35-yard interception return.
High school teammate Bryce McGuire had four tackles, and one for loss, and Houston County alum Caleb Thomas had four tackles and half a tackle for loss.
The Wildcats host Kentucky State this Saturday in their first of only four home games, an improvement in recent weeks from only two home games. They then welcome Allen a week later.
