          The Hurricanes improved to 3-1 with the win in the Region 2-AA opener, expanding on a 14-12 first-half lead to 20-12 and 26-12.

          Dixiana Sims threw another no-hitter and struck out nine. Destiny Lucas and Sims each had four hits, with two-hit games from Laney Bridges, Madisyn Hallar, Avery Stone, and Ella Allen.

          Hayley McElroy went 2 for 2 with two RBI and Ally Fleming added a two-run hit for the Bears.

Howard 20, Westside 0; Howard 27, Westside 0

          Eighteen Huskies batted in the first inning, Abby Davis striking out seven in three innings. She went 3 for 3 with four runs, Nakeria Mallory and Sydnee McElveen adding two hits each. In the nightcap, Howard had 18 hits and Westside five errors, the Huskies getting inside-the-park homers from Abby Hardy and Jayla Evans. Howard, which sent 22 batters to the plate in the first inning, got four hits from McElveen, three from Trinity Wilkins and Mallory, and two from Hardy and Sidney Townsend. Howard (7-4/4-1) visits Baldwin on Monday, and Westside (0-9/0-5) is at Perry on Tuesday.

          Jacie Jenkins had two hits for Piedmont, Emily Whitwell needing only 48 pitches for the five-inning shutout

Caroline Patterson, Brianna Logue, and Callie Still each had three hits for the Trojans, Still with three RBIs. Still, Patterson, Gradie Appling, and Annamary Talcot each belted homers, and Lindsey Paul and Isabelle Pecorilli teamed for the five-inning one-hit shutout.
